Flash floods in Fojnica and Kreševo: River washes away bridge, water enters houses

(Patria) - Heavy rainfall and snowmelt have caused critical floods in the Fojnica and Kreševo areas. Rivers have overflowed their banks, bridges and roads have been destroyed, and residents are pleading for urgent assistance due to the rapidly deteriorating situation.

As a result of several hours of rain and snowmelt, water levels in all river courses in the Fojnica area rose sharply overnight. Water overflowed its banks at several locations, and landslides occurred on some sections of roads.

The situation is critical in Nadbare as well, where the river has overflowed its banks and flooded the surrounding land.

In the village of Stari Pločari, the swollen river washed away a local bridge, completely cutting off communication for the residents of this hamlet.

Water is overflowing from canals and nearby streams, the ground is completely saturated, and some parts of the asphalt have begun to collapse and slide. Locals warn that the situation is worsening by the minute.

"We have never seen anything like this. Everything is underwater, the bridge was gone in a few seconds. We are asking for an urgent response from the Civil Protection and municipal services, because we don't know what will happen to the terrain," said the residents of Stari Pločari, reports Mahalla.ba.

On the regional road Fojnica – Dusina, in the village of Gotuša, a landslide occurred today, temporarily hindering traffic.

In Deževice, in the municipality of Kreševo, the river overflowed rapidly and penetrated several residential buildings.

According to locals, the water flowed down the slopes at great speed and in just a few minutes flooded yards, access roads, and entered the interior of houses, writes Mahalla.ba.

Damage to buildings and property is extensive.
