Vllasi: Events in Montenegro Could Affect the Region, Abazović a Traitor

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The very meeting of the delegations of Kosovo and Serbia in Washington was a significant event, it was said ahead of the regular session of the Association of Independent Intellectuals Circle 99, on the topic ”Hegemonisms and the Necessity of Creating an Axis of Peace in the Balkans”, held in an online format.

The introductory speaker was former Kosovo politician and publicist Azem Vllasi.

Vllasi says that people in the region must cooperate, all forces that fight for peace and care about the peaceful development of this area, and that what happened a few decades ago should never be repeated.

He added that he has recently been following events in Montenegro and that what is happening in that country could have repercussions on the situation in the region.

”You know, in the nineties, that is, in 1989 when it all started in Kosovo, while war troops were in Serbia. While Milošević was mobilizing all forces to start achieving his goals of Greater Serbia policy, we all watched and wondered - surely it won't happen here. Then evil came to all of us. War was waged in Croatia, to take parts of territory. War was waged against Bosnia, Bosnia suffered the most. And genocide was committed, which the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia proved in multiple verdicts”, Vllasi pointed out.

He added that in Kosovo, NATO decided to intervene so that ”the same horrors as in Bosnia would not happen”.

Asked about the possibility of reaching a concept of peace, an axis of peace in the Balkans, Vllasi said that in Kosovo, both in parliament and the government, everyone is for cooperation with the countries of the region to strengthen peace and stability, and that Kosovo currently has good relations with Montenegro and North Macedonia.

"As for Montenegro, the situation is uncertain. And if these clerico-nationalist forces get one more vote and take power, they will not be able to realize the key goals they advocated for because they need a two-thirds majority in parliament”, Vllasi said.

He emphasizes that if a government is formed, it will not last long because there will be a split among them.

”Montenegro is in a phase where it faces a fairly long period of instability and mutual friction. We hope that there will be no serious conflicts. The pro-Serbian opposition is now signaling exactly where it is heading”, Vllasi said.

“Albanians tell me, and everyone knows everyone, that this Abazović (Dritan, leader of URA) received large sums of money from some Montenegrin tycoon who fled the country to side with the clerico-nationalist theocratic current that wants to divert Montenegro from the European path, render it meaningless as a state and turn it into a province of Serbia or a governorate of Russia. But such petty figures usually end up on the rubbish heap of history, and in the trash can of their own people against whose interests they work”, Vllasi added.

Vllasi also spoke about the talks that the delegations of Kosovo and Serbia held during their recent visit to the United States of America (USA).  

”It was not intended that on this occasion Vučić would solemnly declare that he recognizes Kosovo, the Americans neither asked nor insisted on this occasion, but it is on the table to be known, as it was at the beginning of the renewal of the dialogue at the end of 2019 when President Trump sent a letter to both Vučić and Thaci and said: 'I hope you will continue negotiations, reach a final agreement', which implies mutual recognition“, Vllasi recalled.
