Dutch Government Refused to Impose Sanctions on Dodik

(Patria) - The Dutch government has rejected a request from the country's parliament to impose sanctions on Milorad Dodik. According to Dutch media, the Government explained that although it is possible to impose sanctions when there is a threat to public order, in this case, that threat cannot be sufficiently justified, Istraga reports.

"The government, in line with the proposal of MP Piri and others, did indeed advocate for EU sanctions and the consideration of other options within the Benelux group of countries at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on April 14, such as further suspension of EU project funding intended for Republika Srpska. In certain cases, when there is a threat to public order, national measures can also be taken. In this case, it cannot be sufficiently justified. Therefore, considering options through the EU remains the best option for the Government, also due to the effectiveness of implementing measures," the explanation states, as reported by Nezavisne.

The parliament requested that Dodik be sanctioned, citing his actions undermining the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

EU-level sanctions were not imposed due to Hungary's opposition.

Individual sanctions were imposed by Germany and Austria, which banned entry and transit through those countries.
