KS Government Attempts to Prevent Protest Due to Air Pollution: Union Coordination Says Protest Will Be Held on November 29

(Patria) - The Sarajevo Canton Government is attempting, through its bodies, to pressure the Union Coordination in Sarajevo Canton to cancel the announced protest by using the current state of air pollution.

This is being done in such a way that the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection issues an order that was not implemented on November 26, coming into effect on November 25, and it is questionable whether this body can issue orders or recommendations.

After that, the Union Coordination of Sarajevo Canton was asked by the Center Police Administration to, for the purpose of additional measures, request an opinion from the Ministry of Health on whether a gathering can be held on Friday, November 29, even though Article 16, point h) clearly prescribes the manner and on whose request a peaceful gathering can be banned.

The Union Coordination believes that this is an attempt by the Sarajevo Canton Government to prevent the protest rally scheduled for November 29, which is a direct suppression of workers' and civil rights, not unfamiliar to this government, which a few months earlier also banned a peaceful gathering of education workers.

This is also an indicator that the Union Coordination is on the right track, as well as a message for all seven union presidents who are in the Coordination, and for all workers in Sarajevo Canton.

The Coordination states that they will not give up on their demands, and that under full material and criminal responsibility, they will not break the law or endanger the health of colleagues, but will take all measures to achieve the ultimate goal.

The joint struggle for workers' rights, from this moment on, becomes a joint struggle for democracy and the rule of law, because Only Together We Are Stronger!!!

The protest rally against the unilateral decisions of the Sarajevo Canton Government will be held on Friday, November 29, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in front of the building of the Sarajevo Canton Government.

The reason for the protests is the stance of the Sarajevo Canton Government, which did not accept the unions' demands regarding the payment of one-time financial assistance, an increase in the base for calculating salaries in 2025, and an increase in wages for workers in the communal economy.
