(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton has passed a Decision to lift the "Alert" episode because pollutant concentrations in the air have decreased in all zones of Sarajevo Canton. The "Warning" from the Intervention Measures Plan remains in effect.
The decision was made at the proposal of the relevant Ministry and the recommendation of the Expert Body.
As explained in the proposal to lift the "Alert", the lowering of the inversion layer below 600 m above sea level late yesterday afternoon led to the establishment of normal air mass circulation and air purification in the higher and peripheral parts of the Sarajevo basin. At the Otoka, Ilijaš, and Ilidža locations, PM 10 values, according to this morning's measurements, remained above 90 µg/m3.
The explanation for maintaining the "Warning" stated that the improvement in air quality is temporary, and according to the synoptic forecast, the atmosphere will not be completely cleared. Already tomorrow, the re-establishment of temperature inversion is expected, which, along with above-average air temperatures, will cause the accumulation of harmful substances in the air in the coming days.
The Expert Body will continue to continuously monitor air quality and report to the competent Ministry, with proposals for action according to the Intervention Measures Plan if necessary.
