KS Government Declares Alert Due to High Air Pollution

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton has declared an Alert episode due to high air pollution.

Sarajevo is once again the most polluted capital city in the world. Data from the AirVisual website, which shows the air pollution index in Sarajevo, indicated an index of 480 this morning after eight o'clock.

Measures to be implemented by the KS Government in case of an Alert episode include, among other things, suspending classes as needed and prohibiting the use of solid fuels and heavy oils for all individuals.

If necessary, the cantonal government will adopt special measures it deems can improve air quality. 

Recommendations include: suspending any physical activities outdoors.

'Vulnerable groups (children, pregnant women, the elderly, individuals with heart and lung conditions) should minimize physical activities outdoors. Ventilate indoor spaces - in homes where cigarettes are smoked, it is always recommended to ventilate the space, regardless of the outdoor pollution level,' the statement said.

In indoor spaces, it is not recommended to: smoke cigarettes, prepare food by frying, light regular and scented candles, vacuum (unless the vacuum cleaner is equipped with a HEPA filter), use kitchen hoods,' the Government stated.

The use of protective masks marked EN 149 (FFP2 or EN 149 FFP3) is mandatory.

'For all individuals performing outdoor work (utility workers, police officers, postal workers, construction workers, etc.) and who do not suffer from heart or lung diseases. In vehicles, switch ventilation to internal circulation, and occasionally ventilate the space by opening windows. Use public transport,' the statement said.
