KS Government Planned Budget Over 2 Million KM for Srebrenica Office, but it Has Not Been Formed Nor is it Known Who Will Lead It

(Patria) - The 2024 budget allocated 2,104,888 KM for the work of the KS Government Office for Srebrenica Assistance. The number of employees is six. However, the Office has not yet been formed, nor is it known who will lead it.

In August 2023, a competition was only announced for the head of the Sarajevo Canton Government Office for Srebrenica Support and the head of the KS Government Office for the Diaspora, but these competitions have not been concluded, meaning the individuals who are supposed to lead these government offices have not been selected.

The Law on Special KS Programs for the Memorialization of Genocide, Support for the Return and Development of Srebrenica, and Assistance to Victims and Families of Victims of Genocide against Bosniaks in the UN Protected Zone "Srebrenica," adopted in April 2022, stipulates the establishment of the KS Government Office for Srebrenica Support no later than 60 days from the entry into force of this law.

The Law on Srebrenica defines incentive and support measures for genocide victims and families of genocide victims against Bosniaks, individuals registered as residents in this municipality, refugees and displaced persons, returnees, and individuals who have returned from the Sarajevo Canton to this local community from KS institutions and their descendants.

Although the "trojka" parties have continuity in power in KS, it is surprising that they have not fulfilled this legal obligation and have exceeded all reasonable deadlines.

It is even more surprising that the People and Justice party, whose cadres have been in the KS Government for years, is calling for the Srebrenica Office to be opened as soon as possible.

"We encourage the process of establishing this extremely important institution for returnees to be further accelerated," stated NIP in the conclusions of the party's Presidency.
