KS Government Will Not Change Coefficient for Calculating Salaries of Healthcare Workers

(Patria) - Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk stated that the KS Government sees no reason to proceed with changing the salary coefficient for healthcare workers who announced protests for today, as well as a possible strike. He emphasized that the Collective Agreement they signed is still in effect and lasts until the end of April next year.

“The KS Government has actively worked on the demands of healthcare workers to amend the Collective Agreement in the segment of salary coefficients. There have been several meetings with the KS Government's negotiating team, but an agreement has not been reached. The KS Government's position is that we are not proceeding at this time because the Collective Agreement is in effect. There is no reason at this moment to initiate this procedure. In the agreement signed last year, they received a salary increase between 26 and 37 percent, and the Collective Agreement is valid for 24 months. It guarantees the fulfillment of the financial obligations we have undertaken, and on the other hand, the undertaking of work within healthcare institutions. At this moment, there is no valid reason to open the issue of coefficients and changing coefficients. This does not mean that the KS Government will not do it, but at the time when it is necessary, which is three months before the expiration of the collective agreement,” said Uk.

He stated that they now have other hotspots that they need to resolve, but that they will do everything to ensure that doctors and healthcare workers have the salaries they deserve.

Minister of Health of KS Haris Vranić stated that after negotiations with three governments, healthcare workers managed to reach an agreement with this one. He then listed the salaries of doctors, healthcare workers, and employees in healthcare institutions who are not medical staff.

Problem of non-medical staff

Minister Vranić also stated that about 200 doctors who are employed indefinitely in public healthcare institutions are also working part-time in private healthcare institutions.

“About 7,500 workers are employed in the public healthcare sector, and of that, 24.7 percent are non-medical staff that we inherited. Every fourth employee is not medical staff. WHO tolerates a maximum of 14 percent for the system to be economically sustainable,” said Vranić, N1 reports.
