KS Government Decides to Procure Additional Gas Quantities at Extraordinary Session

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton, at an extraordinary session, decided to procure additional quantities of gas at market price, in order to prevent the suspension of heating for over 150,000 citizens who are users of "Toplane".

For the next period, the procurement of an additional 500,000 cubic meters of gas has been requested, which would cost KM 372,000 at the contracted price, but will be paid four times more.

"Sarajevogas" will undertake legal actions in the coming period concerning the breach of contract by "Energoinvest", due to non-delivery of contracted gas quantities and compensation for damages caused by the inevitable procurement of additional gas quantities at a significantly increased price.

We remind you that in the last three days, 215,000 cubic meters of gas less than the guaranteed quantities have been delivered to Sarajevo Canton.

The deficit occurred due to the unforeseen withdrawal of 150,000 cubic meters of gas by the private company "Arcelor Mittal", in the name of alleged repairs.

"Energoinvest" demands that Sarajevo Canton pay the market price for gas for additional quantities, which is four times higher than the contracted price, while "Arcelor Mittal" pays for additional quantities at lower, previously contracted prices.

The KS Government will not allow citizens to bear this burden alone.

Currently, 70 percent of boiler rooms in Sarajevo are operating on alternative fuels due to reduced gas quantities.
