Government of Sarajevo Canton: Council for Development Planning and Development Management Appointed

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton appointed at its 15th session the Council for Development Planning and Development Management in Sarajevo Canton, which, in addition to the Canton's Prime Minister as President of the Council, consists of the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo, the heads of nine cantonal municipalities, the President of the Employers' Association of Sarajevo Canton, and the President of the Cantonal Committee of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Sarajevo Canton.

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Law on Development Planning and Development Management in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina back in late March 2017, which regulates the goals and principles of development planning and development management of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, cantons, and local self-government units, the Press Service of Sarajevo Canton announced.

This Law also stipulates that cantonal governments, within six months from the date of its entry into force, adopt acts on the formation of Councils for Development Planning and Development Management in the cantons, which has not been done so far.

The Council of Sarajevo Canton will have an advisory role in the processes of defining, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the realization of development priorities in Sarajevo Canton and will act in accordance with the principles of partnership and cooperation in line with the provisions of the Law on Development Planning and Development Management in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The Government of Sarajevo Canton continuously reaches out to municipalities for cooperation and coordination in the implementation of capital projects. All projects of a developmental nature, regardless of which municipality they are implemented in, will receive our support,” said Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Edin Forto, announcing the active engagement of this Council in creating all strategic development documents.

The main tasks of the Council are to consider and provide recommendations on key development priorities in the Canton; on strategic development documents of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sarajevo Canton, sectoral strategies of Sarajevo Canton, and their mutual alignment; on development strategies of local self-government units and their alignment with the strategic documents of the Canton; and on development programs that require joint action by various institutions of Sarajevo Canton and local self-government units.
