Government of Sarajevo Canton and Secondary Education Union Sign New Collective Agreement

(Patria) - Today, the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Mario Nenadić and the President of the Union of Employees in Secondary Education in Sarajevo Canton Faruk Bešlić signed a new Collective Agreement for the field of secondary education in Sarajevo Canton, after the Government of Sarajevo Canton gave its consent.

This Collective Agreement regulates the rights from the employment relationship for about 3,000 employees in secondary education.

"I would like to thank and congratulate the negotiating teams led by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton Anis Krivić and the President of the Union Faruk Bešlić for their initiative and persistence in signing this Agreement, which in its essence confirms all the rights that this field already had," emphasized Prime Minister Nenadić after the signing.

Minister Krivić expressed satisfaction that the negotiation process was successfully concluded on time.

He emphasized that good social dialogue was conducted, and that the Union showed understanding due to the circumstances of the Government's work under pandemic conditions.

"I am happy for all education workers who today receive a new Collective Agreement," said Minister Krivić.

The new Collective Agreement brings alignment with the Labor Law, i.e., the application of the right to receive equal pay for the same work.

"With this agreement, we have removed the discrimination and inequality that was present until now, and we have arranged everything in accordance with the Labor Law of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have achieved the right that for the same job, for the same complexity of work, employees receive the same salary, regardless of their professional qualifications, because, according to the Law, work is paid. Accordingly, we have now defined some new salary coefficients. For this purpose, on an annual level, it will be necessary to allocate an additional 283,000 KM for about 200 employees who will now be paid equally for the same work as their colleagues," explained Bešlić, and stated that education will share the fate of the Canton and its financial capabilities.

As emphasized, education workers now have a document that allows them to be at peace for the next two years. The Union expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Nenadić and the Government of Sarajevo Canton for their understanding and acceptance of the agreed text of the Collective Agreement.
