Canadian Government Supports Peaceful, Multi-Ethnic, and Democratic BiH

(Patria) - The Government of Canada has responded to a major campaign by the Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora. The response came through(','); minister in the Canadian Government, to the campaign launched by the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IGK) titled "Urgent Appeal on the Political Crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina".

Among other things, the minister wrote:

"The endangerment of the Dayton Peace Agreement represents a great threat to peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the entire region and beyond. Canada is always on the side of a peaceful, economically sustainable, multi-ethnic, democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Canadian government's stance on Bosnia and Herzegovina is completely clear: any challenge to the Dayton Peace Agreement and an attack on the constitutional order represents a threat to the stability, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The current events in Bosnia and Herzegovina are contrary to Canada's commitment to peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.".

A political debate among the most responsible Canadian political actors regarding the crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina is underway. Concrete measures are expected from the Government of Canada to prevent the secessionist aspirations of Milorad Dodik and all others who disrupt the functioning of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It is important to note that the Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora in Canada sent over a thousand letters to members of the Canadian Parliament in the first week of the campaign alone. We have received responses from numerous governmental and non-governmental high officials, including several members of the Canadian Parliament, namely Mr. Peter Fonseca, Marie-France Lalonde, Emmanuella Lambropoulos, Brian Masse. Allan Rock, who served as the Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations, and previously served in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien as Minister of Justice and Minister of Health, has publicly supported the campaign. The public and unequivocal condemnation by one of Canada's most respected fighters for human rights and freedoms and the fight against genocide, Mr. Rock, of the constitutional order, territorial integrity, independence, sovereignty, and international subjectivity of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and his support for the campaign, testifies to the need for an even stronger and more concrete role for Canada in defending and strengthening the Bosnian-Herzegovinian state.

We remind you that seven days ago, the IGK, on behalf of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian community, launched a campaign to send letters to members of the Canadian Parliament, calling on the Government of Canada to sanction the secessionist aspirations of Milorad Dodik and others who, by seriously violating the Dayton Peace Agreement, attacking the constitutional order, endangering state institutions, and seriously violating human rights and freedoms, are trying to secede the entity of Republika Srpska from the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Canada has been called upon to use all means, through increased cooperation with its allies and more concrete cooperation with pro-Bosnian leaders and state institutions, to ensure the preservation of peace, stability, and territorial integrity, and the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in order to prevent a new genocide and aggression.
