KS Government and Assembly congratulate Jasmila Žbanić on triple success

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Members of the Assembly and Government of Sarajevo Canton congratulated the great success of the film "Quo Vadis, Aida", which won in as many as three categories last night at the 34th European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin, director Jasmila Žbanić and her team.

"Once again, Jasmila Žbanić, together with her team for the film 'Quo Vadis, Aida', has shown that she is a truly masterful director and that there are people in Bosnia and Herzegovina who do this job excellently and know very well what film art is. The current situation in BiH gives a special stamp to this award, and winning three 'European Oscars' last night in Berlin, for best film, best director, and best actress, is something we are all proud of and which sends a strong message from our country to the world in the best possible way," said the Minister of Culture and Sports of KS, Samir Avdić.

This, as well as all previous successes of our director Jasmila Žbanić and the film "Quo Vadis, Aida", and other BiH filmmakers, once again prove how important it is to create an environment for art and culture, because their messages are universal and know no borders.

"Investment in the cultural and creative industry always pays off manifold. We are proud of the success of Jasmila and her team," said the Prime Minister of KS, Edin Forto, on this occasion.

As the Speaker of the KS Assembly, Elvedin Okerić, reminds, Jasmila Žbanić's film is the first feature film that speaks about the genocide in Srebrenica, contributes to remembrance and the dissemination of truth about the committed genocide, but also conveys the events from that time to young people both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world.

"This triple award is very important for the mothers who lost their sons, husbands, brothers, and other family members, and who still face the systemic denial of genocide today.

Every separation of truth from lies will ensure a better future for Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Speaker Okerić on this occasion.

Along with Jasmila Žbanić, the main actress of the film "Quo Vadis, Aida", Jasna Đuričić, also received a European Oscar last night. She embodied the suffering of one mother, as well as all mothers in the Srebrenica genocide, in a particularly strong and emotional way.
