FBiH Government Seeks Consent from RS Government for Emergency Measures and Permanent Remediation of 'Curine njive' Landslide

(Patria) - The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina today adopted a conclusion accepting the Information of the Federal Civil Protection Administration regarding a request to send a letter to the Government of Republika Srpska for granting consent for the implementation of emergency intervention measures and permanent remediation of the landslide at the location “Curine - njive Igralište”, Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad.

To this end, the FBiH Government, by its conclusion, tasked the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH with sending a letter marked "very urgent" to the RS Government, in which it is emphasized that this landslide directly threatens the population and material assets of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo - the locality of the Local Community “Širokača”, streets Bostarići and Ablakovina, in the Sarajevo Canton.

It is recalled that since the end of October last year, the Decision of the Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo on a state of natural disaster has been in effect. Also, it is added that the Cantonal Civil Protection Headquarters of Sarajevo Canton issued an order in November last year, which is still in effect, for the evacuation of the population from the threatened area to safer locations. The letter also states that the competent authorities of the municipalities of Stari Grad and Istočni Stari Grad are in constant communication and are undertaking emergency measures within their competencies. At the proposal of the Municipal Emergency Situations Headquarters of the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, the mayor of that municipality issued a decision on March 28 this year declaring a state of emergency on a part of the territory, at the location “Curine njive”.

Given that the landslide is located in the area of the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, which is on the entity line itself, and that its activity directly threatens people and material assets in the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, this letter requests the competent authorities of the RS to provide the necessary consent as soon as possible so that, in addition to the forces and resources from the RS engaged in implementing emergency measures for the protection and rescue of the population and material assets, forces and resources from the FBiH may also be engaged.

The letter emphasizes that this concerns the need to implement emergency measures for the protection and rescue of people and material assets according to the Plan for the implementation of intervention measures on the landslide “Curine njive” in the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, prepared by the Institute for Geotechnics and Geology of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Sarajevo, dated February 26, 2025, and the implementation of permanent remediation of the landslide “Curine njive” in the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, in accordance with the Project of the Institute for Geotechnics and Geology of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Sarajevo, which is in its final stage of preparation.

Also, the letter emphasizes that the implementation of permanent remediation would entail the approval of the project, conducting a public procurement procedure in accordance with the Law on Public Procurement of BiH, selection of the contractor and supervision, and acceptance of works in accordance with contractual obligations and project documentation.
