FBiH Government: Raid on Klix.ba is a show of force

At the beginning of today's session of the FBiH Government in Sarajevo, Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić informed the Government members that this morning, along with the Federal Minister of Education and Science Damir Mašić, he visited the employees of the Klix.ba newsroom, regarding yesterday's police search, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Assessing that everyone should do their job, both judicial bodies and the media, and be accountable for it, the Federal Prime Minister emphasized that it was nevertheless an inappropriate method and a show of force, and that police raids on newsrooms are not the way to act and sanction media work.

The media, according to him, have a responsibility for the messages and news they broadcast to the public, but it should not be forgotten that they are also a powerful lever in the fight against crime and deviations in society, and that police searches of the media send a bad message to both the public and the world.

Under no circumstances should the freedom of public speech and their role in the democratization of society be suppressed, which is the Government's stance on yesterday's event.

After the discussion, the Government tasked the Federal Ministry of Justice and the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs to form an expert team that will review the legal legislation in this area, cooperation agreements between police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and determine whether yesterday's action was in accordance with current regulations.
