FBiH Government Discussed Security Situation, Decision on KCUS Director Competition Pending

(Patria) - FBiH Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić held a press conference while the FBiH Government session was still ongoing. He stated that an emergency session discussed the security situation in FBiH and emphasized an increase in murders, expressing a desire to intensify activities concerning the FUP and cantonal police administrations.

"The focus of the Federal Government was on FBiH with a clear reference to what concerns the entire BiH. Our desire was to receive information and send messages to the citizens of FBiH, but also of the entire BiH. It is clear that with the decision of the High Representative on proclaiming amendments to the Election Law, where one part of the amendments enters into force eight days from the date of publication on the OHR website, and the second part of the amendments, where the start of application is postponed, leaving some deadline and opportunity for partners at the state level to agree and adopt amendments to that Election Law which would have priority over what the High Representative proclaimed. Following this, we have today's events in the NSRS, an extraordinary session, and I want to say that it is good that the NSRS is not discussing the draft Election Law of RS today, although everything else we have heard cannot be assessed as good," Nikšić pointed out.

"We want to raise the security situation to a higher level. We have called on the FMUP and FUP to act in cooperation with cantonal police administrations in detecting, preventing, and prosecuting all criminal offenses. According to all parameters that agencies, ministries, and administrations are working with, it cannot be said that the security situation is bad, but we are ready and we are asking to raise it to a higher level," said the Federal Prime Minister.

He stated that BiH is at a low level of terrorism risk, and that foreign reports also confirm this.

"The Government and relevant bodies are doing everything to ensure a stable and good security situation. There is no reason for fear and panic. We want to send a message to the citizens and our partners, the deputies of the NSRs, that the Government will remain fully committed to fulfilling its obligations on the EU path. We are not pleased with the problem that has arisen at that political level, but we will seek a way to fulfill our obligations on that EU path," said Nikšić.

The appointment of the director of KCUS will also be discussed at today's session, after the FBiH Minister of Health, Nediljo Rimac, did not give his consent to the Management Board of KCUS for the appointment of Ismet Gavrankapetanović.

"There are several possibilities, but I believe I will have influence on my colleagues, we have legal as well as political obligations. If we deny consent to Ismet Gavrankapetanović, I believe we cannot move forward but must annul the competition," said Nikšić.
