VKBI: The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina must urgently resolve the appointment of the management structures of KCUS

(Patria) - In recent weeks, the Bosnian public has been exposed to statements from various entities regarding the appointment of the General Director of KCUS, Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović. It is inexplicable that
the government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina treats the most developed, most significant, and largest medical Clinical University Center in Sarajevo in the manner we are witnessing.

This is stated in the reaction of the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals, adding: "The indignation of a large number of deserving and prominent individuals, associations of defenders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and proven figures in the fields of culture, art, and science is a clear message to the authorities of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina that they must react immediately, because processes could spiral out of control."

"It is incomprehensible that one person, who holds the position of Federal Minister of Health, Mr. Nediljko
Rimac, through bureaucratic acrobatics, holds the most important and significant medical institution hostage by not giving consent for the appointment of the General Director of KCUS, Ismet Gavrankapetanović. Of course, it is wrong to reduce the entire farce, for which the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and thus its Prime Minister are most responsible, solely to the name of the respected war surgeon, professional, and world-renowned expert Professor Gavrankapetanović, although this is a clear indicator that unfulfilled individuals in their professions, while performing state functions, can play with the integrity and expertise of proven figures, but rather it concerns deeper strategic problems we have been facing for some time," VKBI states.

The existing political "farce," they add, would not receive much attention, or perhaps even significance, in the domestic public if it did not pertain to public health, i.e., the most sensitive segment of any society and state, which potentially concerns every citizen, every person.

"The current attitude of the Federal Minister of Health, the ministers in the Government of the Federation, and ultimately the first minister – the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is completely unacceptable, wrong, and demonstrates a catastrophic level of awareness and responsibility towards the most important issues in our society.

It should be particularly emphasized that the Management Board of KCUS, i.e., the management structure that manages KCUS on behalf of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the cantons, has still not been appointed through the legal procedure but has the status of 'acting,' which indicates a kind of 'state of emergency.' Allowing the management of the treatment of people whose lives depend on them, and millions of public funds for various needs of KCUS, to be conducted under acting status, points to the perniciousness and seriousness of the situation we are in.

Therefore, we appeal and demand from the Federal Minister of Health, the Government, and the Prime Minister of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to immediately and without delay finalize the appointment of the General Director of KCUS, as well as all other management structures - the Management and Supervisory Boards of KCUS," VKBI states.
