High-ranking political officials visited memorials and cemeteries

Since this morning, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been festive, as our homeland celebrates its birthday, writes the Patria news agency. On this occasion, high-ranking political officials are visiting memorials and cemeteries where flowers are laid, reports a Patria correspondent.

At the Eternal Flame, flowers were laid by numerous delegations, including Bakir Izetbegović, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić, representatives of the Sarajevo Canton, the Municipality of Centar, veterans' organizations, volunteers of the Red Cross...

Izetbegović said that this is the day when Bosnia and Herzegovina, as an equal republic, became part of Yugoslavia.

- I believe that these days Bosnia and Herzegovina is turning a positive page in history, that we are again gaining a critical mass ready to support the sovereignty and recovery of Bosnia and Herzegovina - said Izetbegović.

Komšić, in a statement to the media, emphasized the importance of this date.

- Had it not been for November 25, 1943, Bosnia and Herzegovina would not have been able to achieve independence when Yugoslavia was falling apart. Then Bosnia and Herzegovina restored its statehood - said Komšić.

On the occasion of marking the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the authorities and other delegations also laid flowers at the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Sarajevo 1992-1995 at the Children of Sarajevo Square.

Incidentally, on this day 71 years ago, in Mrkonjić Grad, at the First Session of the State Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ZAVNOBiH), the continuity of the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina was confirmed. This event is celebrated as a holiday in the territory of the BiH entity of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while in the territory of the entity of Republika Srpska, this day is no different from any other.
