More than 1,000 workers protest in front of the Sarajevo Canton Government demanding wage increases: The communal economy will collapse by summer

(Patria) - Workers gathered around seven unions took to the streets at 2 PM to protest in front of the Sarajevo Canton Government building. Around 1,000 workers with whistles and banners are sending a message to the Sarajevo Canton Government.

Saudin Sivro from the Union Coordination said they are not giving up on their demands, the first of which is a base salary of 425 KM.

"This is the first government that forces people from education onto the streets," said Sivro.

He emphasized that around 300 union members were called today, but 1,000 showed up.

Senad Sadiković, president of the Union of Healthcare Workers of Sarajevo Canton, said their stance is unified.

"We demand the payment of one-time assistance to all workers. This is a message to both the Sarajevo Canton Government and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government. We have announced protests in front of the Federation Government for December 5. We call on the current authorities to take action regarding the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo," said Sadiković.

Rasim Ljucević, president of the Independent Union of Communal Economy Workers of Sarajevo Canton,
said the situation in the communal economy is catastrophic, and the system will completely collapse by summer.

"The budget for the communal economy has been cut from 102 million to 28 million KM. Some companies were financed from this, while utility prices have not changed for years. If communal workers are left without wages, chaos will ensue in Sarajevo," said Ljucević.

He pointed out that communal companies have deteriorated due to the appointment of unqualified but loyal personnel.

The protest began with the playing of the national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
