Vilić at the Interpol General Assembly in Monaco

Director of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH Mirsad Vilić, accompanied by his associates, participated in the 83rd session of the Interpol General Assembly held from November 3 to 7 in Monaco, reports the BiH news agency Patria. This year's assembly was marked by the celebration of one hundred years of international police cooperation and the global campaign "Turn Back Crime". Delegations from 166 Interpol member countries participated in the session.

The main topics of the General Assembly concerned the fight against new security challenges, including cybercrime, the phenomenon of radicalization and departure to foreign battlefields. Special attention was paid to cooperation between law enforcement agencies at regional and broader international levels. During the session, assembly delegates adopted Resolutions concerning the expansion of Interpol's cooperation as the largest police organization with other institutions, as well as the strengthening of tools and services that Interpol provides daily to police officers worldwide.

This 83rd session of the General Assembly concluded with the election of a new Interpol Secretary General, as well as the election of delegates to other Interpol working bodies. The newly elected Interpol Secretary General is Dr. Juergen Stock, representative of the Federal Republic of Germany.

During the General Assembly, Director Vilić held meetings with the former and the newly appointed Secretary General, during which he expressed gratitude for the support that Interpol provides to the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH through NCB Interpol Sarajevo, via which more than 500 pieces of information are exchanged daily. The mentioned channel for exchanging operational data, wanted notices, modus operandi, and similar, represents an important contribution of the Directorate to communication, cooperation, and coordination with law enforcement agencies in BiH.

In addition to bilateral topics, the meetings discussed the departure of BiH citizens to foreign battlefields, which falls under a global phenomenon. New trends and routes of travel to foreign battlefields were particularly emphasized. Director Vilić highlighted the progress made by BiH in amending the Criminal Code, which relates to the sanctioning of BiH citizens for forming and joining foreign paramilitary and paramilitary police formations. He emphasized that police agencies in BiH have carried out several operational actions in this regard in the past period, resulting in a larger number of arrests.

Furthermore, regarding the fight against cybercrime, all member countries, including BiH, were invited to strengthen their capacities to combat this type of serious and organized crime. Finally, it was expressed that the successful and professional cooperation between Interpol and Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue in the future.
