Tribunal News: Meron Grants Conditional Release to General Lazarević

It has been officially confirmed that the Appeals Chamber of the Tribunal in The Hague has accepted the request for the conditional release of Serbian army general Vladimir Lazarević.

The decision on his release was signed by the President of the Court, Theodor Meron.

Lazarević voluntarily surrendered to the Tribunal on February 3, 2005, following an official indictment by the Tribunal for crimes in Kosovo. The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison. Following a later appeal by the defense, the sentence was reduced by one year.

Ten years would have passed since his prison sentence in February, which is two-thirds of the sentence, but Meron signed his release on December 3, which is two months before completing two-thirds of the sentence.
