Council of Muftis: Islam does not support homosexuality, but nor does it support violence due to someone's personal orientation

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - It is indisputable that homosexuality in the sources of Islam (the Qur'an and Sunnah) is qualified as a great sin and that believers are called not to approach it.

This is the position of the Council of Muftis of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding LGBT persons, which imams read today during the Friday prayer.

„Islam affirms marriage and family, encourages the formation of marriage and the preservation of the values of marriage, offspring and family as the basic cell of human society. According to the teachings of Islam, marriage is a contract for married life between a man and a woman,“ the statement said, as reported by the Patria News Agency.

The same position of the Council of Muftis of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina states that violence against any person based on their personal beliefs and orientation is not permitted.

This position is signed by Reis-ul-Ulema Husein ef. Kavazović, chairman of the Council of Muftis.

The first LGBT parade in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be organized in Sarajevo on Sunday on the main street, Titova, towards the building of the State Parliament.
