Council of Ministers of BiH meets on Monday: BHRT debt, carrier problems, work reports for 2024 on the agenda

(Patria) - The Council of Ministers of BiH is scheduled to hold a session on May 12, starting at 11 AM.

There are 39 items on the agenda, and within the item Reports on the work of the institutions of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2024, there are as many as 52 reports.

There are no laws proposed by the Council of Ministers of BiH on the agenda, and the second to last item is the Information on the problems of carriers, prepared by the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH. We remind you that carriers from all over BiH, on April 21, circled Sarajevo with about 500 trucks, demanding that the authorities get involved in solving the problems of carriers. If the authorities do nothing, and the arrest and persecution of drivers from BiH from the EU continues, the BH Logistika Consortium announces a blockade of road traffic throughout BiH.

A meeting was held this week with the Minister of Transport and Communications Edin Forto, but there has been no concrete progress yet.

Also on the agenda is the Information on the debt of the Public Broadcasting Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). BHRT has been in a financial crisis for some time, and the debt to the EBU has never been paid. The debt dates back to 2007 and amounts to 17 million KM. BHRT cannot pay this debt on its own, and after the increase in the minimum wage, BHRT's costs have significantly increased. More than 500 BHRT employees, including numerous journalists, worked for a salary below 1,000 KM. However, BHRT does not have the money for other salary increases.

Furthermore, the system for collecting RTV fees, which is done through the accounts of JP Elektroprivreda BiH, has not yet been resolved, while RTRs has a debt of tens of millions of KM to BHRT, which is the subject of several lawsuits. The Constitutional Court of BiH recently made a decision according to which RTRs was not allowed to keep the collected RTV fees for itself.

Also on the agenda is the Draft Agreement on a Loan (Sustainable, Integrated and Safe Road Infrastructure Project) between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with the Basis for concluding the said agreement.
