Video: Brawl in Turkish parliament, deputies end up in hospital

During the discussion on the Draft Law on Security in the Turkish parliament, a brawl broke out in which five deputies were injured, local media reported, according to the Patria news agency.

Deputy Ertugrup Kurkču from the pro-Kurdish party said that chairs were thrown and that two deputies were hit by a hammer and the speaker's bell.

Local media report that the dispute arose when opposition deputies tried to delay the start of the discussion.

The brawl occurred during a session held behind closed doors, after opposition parties submitted several requests in an effort to delay the discussion on the controversial draft security law.

Two deputies were taken to hospital, while Kurklu and two other members of parliament were treated in the building's infirmary.

The discussion was supposed to be about the controversial draft security law, which activists fear will enable the creation of a police state under the control of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The draft of the so-called "state security reform" was submitted by the ruling AKP party after pro-Kurdish protests in October.
