(Patria) - Citizens of Sarajevo continuously witness streams of drinking water flowing wastefully down the city's streets. The public company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” evidently fails to adequately address the issue of the water supply network, even though the cantonal authorities in Sarajevo have taken out loans specifically for the purpose of network renovation and reducing water loss.
Residents of Alipašino Polje, specifically Bosanska Street, have been witnessing a new problem since this morning. Many of them say they have tried in vain to report the fault to the phone numbers left by VIK for that purpose, while some have also tried online. It is reported that only towards the end of the working day did they manage to reach the responsible persons at VIK, who announced they would come to the site tomorrow.
The water has already formed a stream down the street, as the fault is clearly not minor; on the contrary, it looks more like a mountain spring than a small damage.
Besides the fact that VIK apparently considers itself not obliged to respond to citizens' calls in a timely manner, residents of Bosanska Street testify that the same situation repeats once or twice every year, at the same location, which is not burdened by traffic.
The problem is evidently in the fact that the folk saying “hold the water until the plumbers leave” can increasingly be applied to VIK, but at the same time, the question must be answered: who will pay for the streams of drinking water flowing down Sarajevo's streets, which can only serve to clean your shoes?
