VIDEO Message from Ljuta Greda: Alagić is our hero, and lilies are the liberation flag

(Patria) - The central event "Days of Victory, Days of Pride - Vlašić 'Ljuta Greda' 2025." was held on the Ljuta Greda plateau on Vlašić, commemorating one of the most significant victories of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the presence of numerous guests, fighters, families of the fallen, citizens, and government representatives, tribute was paid to the heroes of the liberation struggle, especially the commander and general of the Army of RBiH – the late Mehmed Alagić.

The Mayor of Travnik Municipality, Kenan Dautović, in his address, recalled the historical messages that shaped collective memory, emphasizing strength as the basis for survival:

– In the summer of 1995, at a rally in support of Goražde, a UN protected zone, the late President Alija Izetbegović said: "We must be strong, pass this knowledge on to your children. Tell them they must be good and noble, but they must be strong. In this world, only strength is respected."

– Last year, we opened this monumental monument named after our commander, the late General Mehmed Alagić. Some commented afterwards, but I tell them from this place – General Alagić is our commander, our hero, and he always will be, whatever they try or think about him. And these days, it seems, even our flag with lilies bothers them. I tell them again – the lilies will fly because they are a symbol of the one and only state, the legal and legitimate force that defended these areas – the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina!

The Mayor of Sanski Most Municipality, Mensur Seferović, paid tribute to General Alagić, as well as his wife, the late Zizka Alagić, who, as he pointed out, was a quiet, dignified, and strong support for the general:

– The death of General Alagić left a void, but also a legacy that we cherish to this day. The late Zizka supported the project of preserving the memory of the struggle on Vlašić and was genuinely proud when the monument was opened. Our task is not only to remember, but to learn, preserve the truth, and pass it on to future generations.

The president of the association "Tri nula šest", Munir Karić, said that the fighters are proud of everything they have done for their homeland:

– I am happy and proud of everything we did, when it was necessary to do it for our homeland, both in the Vlašić area and throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. That lily here testifies to our brightest days, when we defended and liberated our homeland. I am proud that today we have state leadership in the Ljuta Greda area, and these facilities testify to our thousand-year history.

The event on Vlašić, held in memory of the great military victory from March 1995, once again brought together those who do not forget the price of freedom. With messages of unity, strength, and perseverance in preserving the truth about the defensive-liberation war, the participants once again showed that the "days of victory and pride" are deeply etched into the identity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
