Aleksandar Beronja, despite being seriously ill, is an excellent ninth-grade student at Elementary School "Harmani II" from Bihać, reports the Patria News Agency.  

At the beginning of 2010, his parents noticed that Aleksandar had difficulty climbing the school stairs. They contacted the school clinic, from where they were referred to the Cantonal Hospital in Bihać for further tests.

Then followed a trip to Sarajevo, where at the UKCS, doctors, based on blood tests and detailed examinations, suspected Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which is actually the most severe form of muscular dystrophy in children.

Sarajevo doctors suggested further tests for Aleksandar's parents in Zagreb. The results showed that it was not muscular dystrophy, and the boy returned to Sarajevo where doctors again expressed suspicion that it was indeed this serious illness.

Aleksandar has been fighting the disease for six years, and no one can confirm with certainty whether it is actually dystrophy. Now, there is an opportunity for new analyses in Germany. The Beronja family needs 50,000 KM to take the boy to a clinic there.

A fundraising campaign to enable Aleksandar to travel to Germany was initiated by his schoolmates, and everyone joined in, including teachers and professors from Aleksandar's and all other schools in Bihać, as well as citizens.
