Sarajevo Veterinary Faculty Attempts to Ban Animal Treatment

Local lobbies have been trying to ban animal treatment at the Veterinary Faculty in Sarajevo for several years, the BH news agency Patria (NAP) has learned. If they succeed in this shameful act, this faculty would be the only veterinary faculty in the world banned from treating animals.

Although it is the only higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina where future veterinarians are educated, and which has existed for more than 60 years, the Veterinary Faculty in Sarajevo is often targeted by various inspections, which try to ban animal treatment at this educational institution, even though animals are treated by reputable and well-known university professors and recognized experts.

Dr. Nihad Fejzić, the dean of the faculty, told the Patria news agency that the inspections visiting the faculty he heads come based on anonymous reports, but he rightly suspects that these are lobbies who see the Veterinary Faculty as a hindrance to their own businesses.

- In the last four months alone, we have had three inspections. We are not afraid of inspections; let the inspectors do their job, but it is shameful that we waste time and energy on such things – Dr. Fejzić told NAP.
