Large gathering of citizens against the construction of a nuclear waste repository

(Patria) - A protest gathering of citizens opposing the construction of a nuclear waste repository in Trgovska Gora on the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 13, 2019, in Novi Grad – Bosanski Novi, in the immediate vicinity of the location where Croatian authorities plan to build this repository.

The gathering is organized by the initiative „Trgovska mora, reci ne može“, the Government of the Una-Sana Canton in cooperation with the Municipality of Novi Grad, as well as other municipalities from the Una-Sana Canton and the entity of Republika Srpska.

„Trgovska mora - reci, ne može“ is an initiative by Senad Šepić, and it has the support of the Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton, Mustafa Ružnić. The organization has so far been supported by the mayors of Bosanski Novi and relevant ministers from the Government of Republika Srpska, who are expected to make a decision this week on declaring that area a Una Nature Park, and they will also participate in the gathering.
A large number of organizations and citizens from this region, as well as from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, have announced their arrival on Friday, and the Independent Bloc has organized the signing of a petition in cities across BiH and online.

“We want to peacefully and with dignity send a message to our neighbors that nuclear waste cannot be placed on the border with our country, destroying the future for our Una, Krajina, and the people living in that area. This is a red line we will not cross. 

I thank all the people, tens of thousands of them, from both BiH entities, and even from Croatia, who have so far signed the petition against the construction of the repository. Politicians and representatives of institutions from both entities are united on this issue and committed to working together to prevent this unfriendly attempt. 

We want to encourage all others, especially those at the state level, to be more vocal and unite around this issue, because they will be remembered by it by voters now, and by generations to come. I invite everyone to join us on Friday, so that with a large presence we can send a message that the citizens, peoples of BiH, and representatives of institutions are together and united, and that they will not allow such a repository to be built here“, Šepić, coordinator and one of the organizers of the gathering in Novi Grad - Bosanski Novi, told Patria.
