Severe weather in Istria: Dark cloud turned day into night

Strong storm cells as part of a cold front hit parts of the west coast of Istria this morning, especially the Poreč area, reports the Patria News Agency.

Besides very strong thunderstorm activity, a violent downpour was recorded, along with a northwesterly wind, which is always unpleasant for the more exposed parts of the coast. By 11 AM, the strongest gust of wind was recorded in Poreč, reaching 68 km/h. We should also mention Dajla (43 km/h) and Umag (40 km/h), writes Istramet.

 

Around noon, new thunderstorm weather hit the western parts of Istria. The worst was in the Novigrad area.

At one point, the day turned into night with extremely strong storm winds blowing from the center of the system in various directions. The most rain fell in Dajla near Novigrad, as much as 49 mm. The meteorological station in Nova Vas recorded 48 mm, and heavy rain also fell in the Mirna river valley, up to 40 mm. Hail fell for 10 minutes in the Novigrad area.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is falling in Rijeka. The change in weather in the form of rain and showers has also reached the mainland, primarily the northwestern parts of the country.
