With great effort, we are repairing a landslide threatening to create a natural dam on the Bosna River

The section of the M-17 highway Maglaj-Doboj (in Kosova) is closed to traffic indefinitely, reports the Patria News Agency. As confirmed by Fahrudin Solak, acting director of the Federal Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ), the landslide remediation is a slow and very expensive process.

- Every landslide is different and must be treated by experts. Many companies and machinery are engaged on the M-17 road in Kosova. This landslide is causing us a terribly big problem, because the M-17 is the road through which life happens in BiH, especially in the part connecting FBiH with the border crossings in the north. It is the lifeline of the entire system, with the railway running alongside it. Maximum effort is being invested, and we are trying to find a model to repair this landslide - says Solak.

He also confirmed that they fear the possibility of the landslide reaching the Bosna River in this area, which would effectively create a natural dam.

- We are doing what we can, but landslides are very specific, and it is important that geologists have the final say. But I hope we will solve this problem soon - added Solak, noting that FUCZ teams are working on clearing vital facilities affected by the floods.

According to geologists, about 500,000 cubic meters of earth have moved, shifting the road (M-17) by about seven to ten meters. In the past few days, traffic has been rerouted via the old road through Ševarlije.
