Large number of Srebrenica criminals still unpunished!

A large number of lower-ranking perpetrators of war crimes are still unpunished, and among them are those responsible for the murder of 8,000 people in the Srebrenica genocide, according to the latest US State Department report on the state of human rights in the world. The regular report was presented to the public by US Secretary of State John Kerry, and the part discussing BiH particularly highlighted the issue of prosecuting war crimes.

- Despite the efforts of local authorities and the international community to prosecute war crimes, many lower-ranking perpetrators have remained unpunished. Among them are those responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica and for the approximately 10,000 people who are still considered missing and are presumed to have been killed during the war from 1992 to 1995 – the report states, among other things.

The implementation of the National Strategy for Prosecuting War Crimes is, as stated, slow due to the complexity of cases and due to the budget and personnel allocated by state, entity, Brčko District, and cantonal authorities to courts and prosecutor's offices.
