Great Britain tightens epidemiological measures

(Patria) – Starting Thursday, British pubs, bars, and other catering facilities will close at 10:00 PM, which represents an additional measure and effort by the local government to curb the rapid increase in the coronavirus rate.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce new measures on Tuesday, a day after his scientific advisors and health sector representatives warned of a new wave of the virus in all parts of the country.

As the number of new infections is 'doubling every seven days', if nothing is done, the daily average could reach around 50,000 by mid-October, warned scientific advisor Patrick Vallance.

Appearing on a TV show, Vallance explained that an increase in the number of new infections means 'an increase in the number of hospitalizations, as well as deaths', warning of the necessity of 'speed and action to reduce the rate'.

In addition to shorter working hours for catering facilities, the government has already announced strict penalties for violating self-isolation, as well as a ban on gatherings of more than 6 people.

Prime Minister Johnson will inform parliament about the epidemiological situation on Tuesday, and a televised address to the nation about the government's efforts to combat the coronavirus is also planned.

The infection rate is increasing among all age groups, and according to data from Johns Hopkins University, Great Britain has the highest mortality rate in Europe, which is 41,800.

On Monday, 4,300 new cases of infection were confirmed, which is a new jump, as was the case at the beginning of April when the daily average reached 6,199 cases.
