Glorification of War Criminals a Brake on BiH's EU Path

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The EU Delegation in BiH has backed the request of the High Representative in BiH to annul decisions on awarding charters to convicted war criminals in BiH. The EU Delegation recalls that taking concrete steps to improve the environment conducive to reconciliation with the aim of overcoming the legacy of war is one of the 14 key priorities from the European Commission's Opinion on BiH's EU membership application.

“Glorification of war criminals, revisionism and denial of well-documented and established facts about war events, including war crimes, are contrary to the most basic European values,” the EU Delegation in BiH stated.

In this regard, they state, all political institutions and actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina should demonstrate their full and unequivocal commitment to the rule of law, as well as to creating an environment conducive to reconciliation.

The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valentin Inzko, sent a letter to the leadership of the Assembly of the Republika Srpska entity and the presidents of all caucuses in the NSRS, requesting that within three months the charters awarded by the NSRS to persons convicted of war crimes be annulled, including all former presidents of the National Assembly of RS and members of the first Presidency of RS, including Radovan Karadžić, Momčilo Krajišnik and Biljana Plavšić.
