1439 AH begins tonight

According to the Almanac of the Islamic Community in BiH, the new 1439 AH begins with the evening prayer. The first day of the new Hijri year is Thursday, September 21, which is 1 Muharram 1439 AH. The Hijra, the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD, represents a magnificent event in Muslim history that enabled Muslims to become an organized and responsible spiritual community, capable of translating the values of Islam into social life, reports the Patria News Agency.

The Hijra was an extremely difficult, painful, and risky undertaking because a small religious group led by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was asked to leave their homes and accept the help and protection of the inhabitants of Medina. Because of this great sacrifice, the Quran guarantees heavenly rewards to all Muhajirs and Ansar. Through the practice of brotherhood between the Muhajirs and Ansar, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) demonstrated the Islamic ideal of universal brotherhood based on the principles of Tawhid (belief in One God).

The Hijra showed that Muslims are like a rose with many petals, but with one fragrance, which is reflected in all-encompassing Tawhid and mutual solidarity.

Given the magnitude and significance of the Hijra, at the suggestion of the second righteous caliph, Umar (RA), the calculation of time in the Islamic calendar is determined precisely by this event. In all mosques and masjids of the Islamic Community in BiH and the diaspora, the New Hijri Year is celebrated in an exemplary traditional manner.

We congratulate all Muslim men and women in the homeland and diaspora on the upcoming New Hijri Year, with a prayer to the Almighty Lord to gladden us with His Forgiveness, Mercy, and Guidance: Sene-i džedide mubarek olsun!

On the occasion of the celebration of the Hijri year 1439, the Majlis of the Islamic Community Sarajevo will organize an academy titled "Paths of the Hijra" on Wednesday after the evening prayer at the Kuwaiti Mosque in Čengić-Vila.

As part of the program, the mufti of Sarajevo, Enes Ljevaković, will deliver a relevant lecture, and the ceremony will be enhanced by the performance of nasheeds and qasidas by the Choir of the Majlis of the Islamic Community Sarajevo, the Choir of the Sokolović-Kolonija community, the Choir of the Podlugovi community, and narrators.
