Oscar Ceremony Tonight

The films "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" are nominated for this year's most prestigious film award, the Oscar, each with nine nominations, reports the Patria news agency. 

The films "Theory of Everything", "Boyhood" and "American Sniper" can also boast multiple nominations, and among the nominated actors are five Britons - Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne, Rosamund Pike, Felicity Jones and Keira Knightley.

Eight films are nominated in the Best Picture category: "American Sniper", "Birdman", "Boyhood", "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "The Imitation Game", "Selma", "Theory of Everything" and "Whiplash".

Nominations for Best Actor, in addition to Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne, also include Steve Carell, Bradley Cooper and Michael Keaton.

In the Best Actress category, Felicity Jones, Rosamund Pike, Reese Witherspoon, Marion Cotillard and Julianne Moore are nominated.

American actress Meryl Streep has been nominated for an Oscar for the 19th time, breaking her own record.

She is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for the film "Into the Woods", and her competitors are actresses Keira Knightley, Patricia Arquette, Laura Dern and Emma Stone.

Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film are the Russian film "Leviathan", the Polish film "Ida", the Estonian film "Tangerines", the Mauritanian film "Timbuktu" and the Argentine film "Wild Tales".

This year's Oscar ceremony will be held tonight.
