(Patria) - Members of the Sarajevo Fire Brigade and the Civil Protection of the Sarajevo Canton have been fighting for hours to bring under control a fire that broke out in the early morning hours at the Heco facilities in Stup.
Dženan Brkanić, director of the Civil Protection of the Sarajevo Canton, said that the fire in the warehouse near the Heco market in Sarajevo engulfed highly flammable materials, styrofoam and plastic, making it more difficult to extinguish the flames.
As Brkanić stated, firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other floors.
Brkanić could not comment on the causes of the fire, as this will be determined by a competent fire protection expert after the fire is contained.
The director of the Civil Protection of the Sarajevo Canton said they had problems extinguishing the fire because there are no available hydrants at this location, and they had to use those located on the other side of the roadway.
Fortunately, human casualties were avoided, and there are no injured persons, but significant material damage has occurred.
