Varhelyi: We are convinced that BiH can do more and better

(Patria) - A clear message and commitment that the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina has no alternative was sent from Brussels today from all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, after the second high-level political forum between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina held today in Brussels, said that political leaders from BiH expressed their commitment to continue as strongly as possible on the reform path, in order to achieve progress for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood, Olivér Várhelyi, added that the European Union sees commitment and positive progress regarding the necessary and long-awaited reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He believes that granting candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina was the right decision, as results and development never seen before in our country have been shown.

“We are convinced that BiH can do more and better, and the Council of Ministers, led by Borjana Krišto, is visibly working on it. We see great progress in reforms, new governments have been established at all levels, budgets are being adopted quickly, and all political parties have recognized European integration as a priority,” he said.

He also emphasized significant progress in adopting reform laws, as well as political strategies.

“Political strategies have been created that are an integral part of the European path. I would mention the fight against money laundering, action plans for migration and the fight against terrorism, or the implementation of the national strategy for prosecuting war crimes. I think that with this development of events, we see a big change in approach, a big change in the work of all institutions and the functioning of institutions throughout the country,” Várhelyi explained.

If this commitment continues, he believes that the European Union will be ready to open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina when all criteria are met. The meeting, as Várhelyi said, confirmed that all levels of government in BiH are committed to these priorities.

Finally, he said that the European Commission will report to the Council of Ministers of BiH on progress in March 2024, emphasizing that this is excellent news for BiH, as well as for the European Union, because it is evident that work continues and that the commitment to these priorities is stronger than ever, reports N1.
