Extraordinary Congress does not calm the membership: Lagumdžija must go!

At yesterday's session of the Main Board of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which lasted 12 hours, it was decided that the party's extraordinary Congress will be held on December 6, at which a completely new leadership of the SDP should be elected, Patria writes.

Turmoil and misunderstandings, as well as the fact that Zlatko Lagumdžija, the president of the SDP, did not want to resign, further divided the membership and deepened the crisis. Namely, the debacle in the General Elections was the main motive for replacing Lagumdžija, but he is unwilling to step down, although many members advocated for it.

Incidentally, the SDP lost more than half of its mandates (5) in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina; instead of 8, it will have 3. In the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it lost almost two-thirds of its mandates (17); instead of 28, it will have only 11, and in the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska, it lost all 3 mandates and will no longer be a parliamentary party.

At the Main Board, it was nevertheless decided that an extraordinary congress will be held, which at this moment suits Lagumdžija the most, and precisely because of this, Denis Bećirović resigned.

SDP President Zlatko Lagumdžija told reporters that a set of activities to be carried out before the extraordinary Congress, which will be held on December 6 in Sarajevo, was adopted. According to his words, the goal of this leadership is to "bring the SDP ship into a safe harbor."

Many SDP members are disappointed with this outcome because they believe they cannot democratize the party without amending the Statute. Tensions are rising, and although Lagumdžija is satisfied with the outcome, a part of the membership is dissatisfied and will not give up on the intention that Zlatko Lagumdžija pays the price for the election failure, for which members from Tuzla and Krajina blame him the most. These SDP representatives accept only one thing: Lagumdžija leaving the position of party president.
