Vampires in BiH

Bosnia and Herzegovina is probably the only country in the world whose leader wishes death upon his own country at all costs, and preferably a painful and immediate one. 

Milorad Dodik's views on Bosnia and Herzegovina are disgusting and repulsive. As head of state, he uses every public appearance to devalue Bosnia and Herzegovina's international credibility. And he does so without any shame. During the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of NATO bombing of Serbia in Niš last weekend, Dodik once again competed with himself to vulgarly state that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a failed state and that he loves Serbia. “Bosnia and Herzegovina is not possible, because it is the result of an ideology and policy that bombed Serbs in both Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Dodik said. Of course, one must be a moral degenerate to remain silent about being bombed by NATO because of the crimes you previously committed wherever you went.

Milorad Dodik and HDZ member Dragan Čović rule their parts of ethnically clean territories in BiH sovereignly. The institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina have no influence over that territory and its population. Where Dodik and Čović are, neighboring Serbia and Croatia have full power, but not the Bosnian-Herzegovinian government.

Neither Dodik nor Čović hide such a hostile attitude towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, just as the “official Belgrade” and “official Zagreb” do not hide their territorial claims on neighboring countries, which, after all, they practically demonstrated during the war in the nineties. While Dodik was flaunting his Serb identity in front of the SNS audience at Serbia's expense on Sunday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić were smiling in the background. Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić said last year at the opening of the highway near Doboj that this highway is not a matter for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, “because the construction of this highway is an internal matter for Serbs,” alluding to the fact that Serbia and Republika Srpska, an entity in BiH, are one state. “I am the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but Republika Srpska is our 'internal affair',” Dačić said.

Their stance on Bosnia and Herzegovina was expressed by the opposition in Republika Srpska when the president of SDS, Vukota Govedarica, stated that he would continue on the path taken by the first president of that party, Radovan Karadžić, who was convicted last week before the UN court in The Hague for the worst war crimes against Bosniaks and Croats during the war in BiH, including genocide, while Branislav Borenović of PDP condemned the people of Sarajevo for boycotting the bakery “Manja”, which followed after the owner of this interesting brand glorified Ratko Mladić, the VRS general who kept Sarajevo under siege for four years, also convicted in The Hague for genocide. Borenović called the views of a certain Saša Trivić the right to personal opinion. How the civilized world views such personal opinions is best illustrated by the decision of the Gurk-Klagenfurt diocese, which banned the commemoration of those who died in Bleiburg after World War II, thus dismissing the entire state leadership of Croatia, including President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, because at that place, along with paying tribute to the victims, the Ustasha ideology was also glorified. Bosnia and Herzegovina is in no way keeping up with the times in this regard. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, attempts are being made to pass off as freedom of expression what the Western world rejects with disgust, and even prosecutes, such as Croatian fans who chanted Nazi slogans during a match in Austria a few years ago, ending up with draconian penalties and mandatory, supervised visits to de-radicalization centers.

Speaking of the opposition, SDP and Naša stranka announced that they will not be part of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian government in the next four years, because ethno-nationalist parties in BiH do not agree to implement the principles required by civic-oriented political parties. “Good luck to DF, but we don't want to be part of that kind of fight.” Does this mean that the opposition in the Federation, which considered itself the last bastion of common sense in BiH, is withdrawing and giving up on Bosnia and Herzegovina as a country of equal rights for all its citizens? If it is accepted that national parties do not want to accept civic principles, then they are given the right to implement their own national principles, which means moving away from European values.

If SDA once traded with political partners from HDZ and SNSD, today they have lost all control. All political and economic power, even among Bosniaks where SDA once ruled sovereignly, is today in the hands of Dodik and Čović. However, it seems that SDA is not paying too much attention to this. The political energy of the first woman in SDA, who did not become a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina only because she wanted to, but whose husband, the president of SDA, certainly predicted a brilliant political career for her, has recently been focused on banning parking near Pionirska dolina. Or, she directs all her political energy towards preventing one of the best neurosurgeons, Professor Kemal Dizdarević, from returning to Sarajevo neurosurgery, or preventing one of the best orthopedists in the world, Professor Ismet Gavrankapetanović, from returning to the Faculty of Medicine.

The least a person who adheres to a minimum of personal morality can do is to send such politics to the landfill. Because building a better political and social environment is primarily the individual responsibility of every adult and healthy person.

Since no cathartic processes have occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the contrary, these processes have largely gone astray, worse than immediately after the end of the war, the OHR has an obligation to preserve the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, even if it has to be by force. This makes the behavior of the international community, which accepts Dodik as a credible interlocutor at a time when he attacks the territorial integrity and state sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina every day, even more surprising. The call by the international community for internal political forces in BiH to reach a compromise, which, incidentally, call the same international community fools and global swindlers, can only be considered sponsoring an escape from one's own responsibility.
