Valentin Inzko: It would be fantastic if citizens of BiH elected new parties in October

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Inzko said that the international community is concerned about the pre-election rhetoric in BiH.

"When it started this hot, and it's not October yet, not September, what will happen later," Inzko said in the Dnevnik D broadcast of Federal TV, reports Patria agency.

When asked which parties are refusing compromise regarding the Election Law, Inzko said that these are the parties in power.

"In an earlier statement, on a different occasion, we said that these are HDZ and SNSD, but so many parties are involved in the amendments to the Election Law that I wouldn't say one or the other is more to blame," Inzko said.

He emphasized that solutions for the Election Law of BiH exist, but that in the Balkans, parties that seek compromise are considered losers, and heroes are those who refuse compromise.

When asked if he would use the Bonn powers, the High Representative in BiH said that a good domestic solution should be prioritized, because, as he pointed out, the international community will leave BiH sooner or later.

"Bonn powers exist. However, currently, there is no disposition within the international community to consider that. What will happen in two or three months, what will happen in December, I cannot say," Inzko said.

Speaking about obstructions regarding the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, he said that the international community in BiH wants international standards in this area, meaning that the judiciary should be allowed to do its job unhindered, but that some in BiH want the current situation to be maintained in the country.

Several embassies, the OHR, and the OSCE have previously accused HDZ BiH and SNSD of obstructing the adoption of quality amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of BiH.

"In a neighboring country, Ivo Sanader was arrested... the President of Israel is in prison, there is an indictment against President Sarkozy. So, if someone is guilty - they are guilty, if they are innocent - they are innocent, there is no doubt about that," Inzko said, adding that HDZ voted against a good solution.

Speaking about the Constitutional Court rulings, Inzko said that it bothered him that some Croats advocate for respecting the Constitutional Court's decision in the "Ljubić" case, which he considers acceptable, but at the same time, he reminds, the same people do not want to respect the Constitutional Court's decision that Serbs are a constituent people in Herzegovina-Neretva or West Herzegovina Canton.

"Aleksa Šantić would not be recognized in Mostar, because there are no Serbs there, they are not in the Constitution," he said.

"If you want one decision to be respected, you must respect other decisions as well, especially those that are older, as well as the rulings of international human rights courts," Inzko added.

He said that Bosnia and Herzegovina has many talented young people and that perhaps already in the October elections this will come to the fore, that, as he said, "new parties are elected, or new people in old parties, which would be fantastic."

"And that's why I remain optimistic," Inzko added.
