Priorities Established: Strike Force for Combating Human Trafficking and Illegal Immigration

 

A meeting of the Strike Force for Combating Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration was held at the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, chaired by the Chief Prosecutor Goran Salihović, it was announced from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, reports the Patria news agency.

At the meeting, priorities for the activities of law enforcement agencies, security agencies, and the judiciary in the upcoming period in the fight against this type of criminal offense were discussed.

During the meeting, recommendations from the State Department Report on the situation in BiH regarding human trafficking were considered, and priorities were set in line with the recommendations, as well as the current situation concerning these criminal offenses. Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the State Department report, is at Tier 2, and the Strike Force will strive through its work in the future to improve the status of our country in this segment.

In the upcoming period, law enforcement agencies will focus on detecting, preventing, and prosecuting criminal offenses of human trafficking for labor exploitation and begging, where the victims are citizens of BiH and foreign nationals, with a high percentage of victims being women, children, and minors, as a particularly vulnerable category of the population.

 

Also, activities in the fight against human trafficking for sexual exploitation and all other forms of exploiting the difficult position of victims will continue.

Police and security agencies and the prosecutor's office will also focus on monitoring the situation with the movement of emigrants and the dangers of illegal migration through Bosnia and Herzegovina, with increased attention to monitoring the migration and stay of a larger number of foreign nationals in certain places in BiH, whose arrival in our country increases the risk of illegal migration and other criminal offenses.

The Strike Force for Combating Human Trafficking is chaired by the Chief Prosecutor, and the group brings together representatives of all police and security agencies in BiH who are specialized in prosecuting this type of criminal offense, the statement reads.
