Lawyers' appeal accepted: Police officer Adnan Duhović's detention lifted and restrictive measures imposed

(Patria) - The Municipal Court in Sarajevo accepted the appeal of police officer Adnan Duhović's lawyers, Lejla Babić and Sanin Pešta, and lifted his detention, imposing restrictive measures, including leaving his place of residence without prior court approval, unless he is leaving to appear before the court or prosecution in a criminal proceeding.

Police officers will visit the suspect's place of residence once a day and monitor compliance with the prohibition measure.

Duhović is also prohibited from communicating with the suspect Nermin Džindo, as well as with witnesses listed in the Prosecutor's Office's proposal, and police officers from the Centar Police Department, PS Centar.

Duhović was initially detained on October 22 due to grounds for suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of receiving gifts or other benefits, as well as abuse of position or authority.

The Court, deciding on the appeal, considered that time has passed since the commission of the criminal offense, which is why the panel concludes that the danger of obstructing the criminal proceedings or influencing witnesses is not of such intensity and significance that it must necessarily and indispensably be eliminated solely by detention.

The Court also stated that it is not clear which evidence the suspect could influence, given that it has already been collected.

The Sarajevo Cantonal Prosecutor's Office suspects Duhović and Džindo of having, during May and June of this year, during traffic checks, demanded money from drivers who committed traffic violations, primarily so as not to sanction them, i.e., so as not to issue them a violation report.
