Law Enters into Force: BiH Armed Forces Soldiers in Active Service Until Age 49

(Patria) - After the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament unanimously adopted amendments to the Law on Service in the Armed Forces (AF) of BiH today, which completed the parliamentary procedure and met the conditions for entering into force, the proposer of the law, delegate Džemal Smajić (SBiH), stated that this is an extremely important step for the stabilization and long-term strengthening of the operational capability of the BiH AF.

- By adopting the law in both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, we have made an important institutional leap in resolving the serious shortage of military personnel. By allowing professional soldiers to remain in service until the age of 49, we preserve the continuity, experience, and operational readiness of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is of fundamental importance for the security of the state - stated Smajić.

He emphasized that professional soldiers represent one of the most valuable resources of the defense system, and that their knowledge, training, and many years of experience play a key role in performing the daily tasks and international obligations of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- With this law, we have prevented the loss of trained and experienced personnel who have professionally served Bosnia and Herzegovina for years. By extending the age limit, we ensure more stable functioning of the Armed Forces, because soldiers with longer service bring operational knowledge and professional security that cannot be quickly replaced. At the same time, we send a clear message of respect to the people who have borne the burden of service and defended the reputation of the state - said Smajić.

He added that the amendments to the law also establish a fairer relationship towards professional soldiers compared to other public sector employees, who are allowed a longer working life.

Smajić thanked the deputies and delegates of both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina who supported the law, emphasizing that its entry into force represents an important step towards strengthening the defense system and the institutional stability of the state.
