Program adopted for financing treatment of severely ill children outside BiH

SARAJEVO; (Patria) - The Management Board of the Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund adopted the Program for financing diagnostics and treatment of severely ill children up to 18 years of age from the Sarajevo Canton area, drafted by the Ministry of Health and the Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund. Initial funds in the amount of one million KM have been secured primarily for the treatment of these children outside the Sarajevo Canton, within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and abroad.

“This is an intervention activity to bridge existing shortcomings in providing healthcare to this population. Our vision is to provide all necessary conditions so that the youngest residents of our Canton can be treated here,” said the Minister of Health in the Government of Sarajevo Canton, Amela Sofić.

As explained by Minister Sofić, a team of expert physicians from relevant medical fields, in accordance with the rules of good medical practice, will be responsible for assessing the referral of these children for treatment outside the Sarajevo Canton. If this team assesses that a sick child cannot be treated in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then the child is referred abroad to receive the necessary health services.

This model of financial assistance for the treatment of severely ill children also incorporates initiatives from parliamentary representatives Bilsena Šahman, Neira Dizdarević, and Jasmina Bišćević-Tokić, who have repeatedly pointed out the need to create conditions for the treatment of our youngest citizens outside the Sarajevo Canton.
