Adoption of Framework Energy Strategy for the entire country an important step towards EU integration

The European Union Delegation to BiH and the Office of the EU Special Representative welcome yesterday's adoption of the Framework Energy Strategy for the entire country by the Council of Ministers of BiH.

This is an important step towards opening the door for EU financial support to the BiH energy sector under IPA II. It is also about creating a vision for the future development of the energy sector in BiH, by harnessing its potential to stimulate sustainable economic growth and establish a framework for successful investments.

This strategy should serve Bosnia and Herzegovina in addressing issues of security of supply, diversification of supply sources, more efficient and environmentally sustainable use of domestic resources, and promoting renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

The European Union encourages the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina to seriously consider the environmental aspects that need to be aligned with EU standards and policies to ensure overall sustainable development and growth.

We are ready to continue working with all relevant stakeholders to define support for the energy sector, which can serve as a backbone for the overall economic growth of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
