Constitutional Court of BiH orders CEC to certify SDS's application for local elections

(Patria) - The Constitutional Court of BiH has issued a decision ordering the Central Election Commission of BiH to certify the application of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) for the local elections, despite them having registered the party secretary's transaction account.

Due to US sanctions, as well as tightened bank controls, the SDS was left without a transaction account in a bank, and they submitted two applications for the elections to the CEC. One under the name SDS, and the other under the reserve name SDS - Volja naroda (Will of the People).

However, SDS - Volja naroda, being on the ballot for the first time, is not entitled to seats in polling station committees.

Although the CEC has completed the procedure for certifying the applications of political parties for the local elections, the CEC will have to act in this case according to the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH.

The SDS appealed to the Constitutional Court of BiH with a request for a temporary measure, which the Constitutional Court of BiH granted, ordering the CEC to certify the SDS's application.
