Railway traffic re-established on Sarajevo–Čapljina–Ploče route: First freight, then passenger traffic from February 10

(Patria) - Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina inform the public that the reconstructed railway in Donja Jablanica is operational again. After the successfully completed test phase and technical inspection, the Federal Ministry of Spatial Planning issued a permit for the use of the railway on January 30, 2025.

All conditions have thus been met for the resumption of freight and passenger traffic on the Sarajevo-Čapljina route and further towards Ploče.

Starting today, freight trains will be introduced first, and the establishment of passenger traffic on the Sarajevo – Čapljina – Ploče route is planned for February 10, 2025.

The devastating natural disaster of October 4, 2024, caused an almost four-month interruption of traffic, which represents a revenue reduction of 22.5 million KM for JP Railways of FBiH.

The reconstruction of the railway in Donja Jablanica was realized thanks to the donation of the Turkish company Cengiz Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. - Zenica Branch, which donated the project documentation and construction works. The works began on December 10, 2024, and were completed on January 23, 2025.

This successful project would not have been possible without the support of numerous partners and donors:

 Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Sarajevo (revision of project documentation),
 Institut IGH d.o.o. Mostar (supervision of works),
 INFRA d.o.o. Sarajevo (design of railway reconstruction).

It should also be emphasized that the workers of Railways of FBiH completed the installation of the track superstructure and the contact network in record time, enabling timely implementation and traffic safety.
