Difficult rescue operation of German mountaineers successfully concluded: EUFOR helicopter evacuated them from Maglić

(Patria) - The Ministry of Security of BiH coordinated a rescue operation last night for two German citizens from Mount Maglić.

The mountaineers got lost after yesterday's hike, and rescuers requested the Ministry of Security of BiH to get involved in coordinating activities last night, which involved rescuers from Foča and Montenegro.

Namely, the mountaineers crossed into the territory of Montenegro, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro requested assistance from the Ministry of Security of BiH and the engagement of a helicopter for their extraction, given that they do not have a helicopter capable of operating in night conditions.

In the early morning hours of April 6, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina requested support from EUFOR in the search and rescue of two civilians.

By the decision of the EUFOR commander, Major General Lászlóa Sticza, an EUFOR helicopter took off to the last known location in search of the missing persons. After they were located, an EUFOR helicopter was dispatched for medical evacuation, from which a doctor and a medic were lowered by winch to examine and stabilize the civilians, as they were reportedly injured and close to hypothermia.

After that, the civilians were lifted into the helicopter, and both helicopters returned to Butmir base, from where the civilians were transported by ambulance to a hospital in Sarajevo. The entire operation was carried out during the night, in a mountainous area.
