Successful GSS FBiH operation: Injured 41-year-old German woman airlifted to KCUS

(Patria) - Another successful rescue operation is behind the rescuers of the Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) FBiH and another struggle with the procedures for using helicopters for rescue purposes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"This morning around 11 AM, GSS Station Konjic received a report of an accident involving two foreign nationals on the ridge between the Neretva and Rakitnica canyons, near the Vis peak.

Eleven rescuers from GSS Konjic were immediately dispatched to the accident site, while additional members, as well as rescuers from other cities, were put on standby.

It took rescuers two hours to reach such a remote location, which was expected for an inaccessible area.
After examination, it was determined that the German national (41) had a leg injury and that a very long and complex transport was necessary due to the demanding terrain.

First aid was provided to the injured person, additional forces were sent to the field, and procedures for helicopter support and evacuation were immediately initiated," announced GSS FBiH.

They state that it took about five hours to transfer the request through various structures, during which time the rescuers carried out an extremely demanding transport over very inaccessible terrain.

"After almost seven hours spent in the operation, they expected the transport to take at least as long if it continued by land.

After numerous urgings from GSS, the injured person was airlifted by an EUFOR helicopter to KCUS around 6 PM, where she will receive medical care.

This swift and coordinated rescue operation once again highlights the crucial role of helicopters in providing emergency assistance in hard-to-reach areas.

Thanks to the efforts of the GSS teams, the injured person will receive appropriate medical assistance as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, we once again found ourselves in a situation where inappropriate and complicated procedures are prioritized over people's safety and health.
